Dr. Viji Dravaim leads a research group Queen Mary University of London and trains postdoctoral research fellows and PhD students. Her primary long-term goal is to identify means to develop diagnostic and prognostic tools for tackling aggressive aneuploid tumors. She studies genetic pathways, their roles and regulation in human cells, to understand how healthy cells guard chromosome numbers. Tumor cells often display errors in the process of chromosome segregation and bear irregular number of chromosomes (aneuploid state). Hence by exploiting basic knowledge of chromosome segregation process in normal cells, she aims to design tools to combat aggressive aneuploid tumors.

Specialties: High-resolution cell biology approaches in combination with quantitative single-cell metrics and High-throughput functional genomics and proteomics approaches.

Dr. Viji Draviam earned her Master’s Degree in Molecular Biology from National Centre for Biological Sciences at TIFR, India. She earned her doctorate from University of Cambridge, UK and was a Post-doctoral fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA & Harvard Medical School, USA.

Marisa started her career as an intern with AT&T in Rome Italy. She graduated from John Cabot University, Rome with a BBA in 1994 and proceeded to complete her MBA with Herriot Watt University in Edinburgh under a long distance programme.

In 1997, Marisa was asked by AT&T to join the marketing and consumer team where she lead and rolled out the hotel marketing programme for AT&T. Marisa then proceeded to lead the Military markets in Europe and the Middle East, and after a couple of years she headed the long distance Voice business for Europe, followed by managing the Wholesales Data Sales teams in EMEA. For the past four years Marisa has been leading in her current as Associate Vice President heading up the Global Connection Management team for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Southern Asia.

Marisa was born in South Africa, and moved to Italy with her parents, brother and sister in 1990. In 2000 Marisa moved to Belgium with her husband and today they have two sons.
